Leave To Wonder celebrates quirky messages and bewildering poetry, but when it comes to the aspect of sustainability, we believe in being straightforward and transparent.

Manufacturing partner

In the north of Portugal, between Porto and Guimarães, you will find one of the most important textile manufacturing regions of the European Union. We have chosen to cooperate with SIENA, a textile manufacturer founded in 1992, based in Roriz. SIENA is known for their high quality, and both the company itself and all its suppliers have a Oeko-Tex certification.

SIENA is committed to sustainability as a priority objective, thorough the use of renewable energies, reuse and waste management, as well as applied technological processes, which respect the environment.

Fabrics

We only use organic cotton with the lowest possible environmental and social impact, while prioritizing durability. It’s grown without harmful chemicals, making it healthier for both the environment and the farmers who produce it. It also doesn’t use genetic modification or fertilisers. In choosing organic cotton, we support sustainable farming practices that protect the soil, water, and biodiversity. It is also softer and safer for your skin, offering a more ethical and eco-friendly choice without compromising on comfort.

Compared to conventional cotton, organic cotton uses significantly less water than conventional cotton—typically around 91% less. This is because organic farming practices rely more on rainwater rather than the extensive irrigation used in conventional cotton farming. Additionally, the healthier soil in organic farming retains moisture better, reducing the need for additional water sources. This reduction in water usage makes organic cotton a more sustainable and environmentally friendly option.

There’s still a lot of work to do, since only 1% of farmed cotton worldwide is the organic variation, even though there appears to be a high demand.

Packaging

For our shipment of online orders we use recycled packaging materials, ensuring protection of the clothes with the minimum possible environmental impact.

All our paper materials are FSC-certified. They reduce reliance on virgin wood pulp and use less water and energy in production. Additionally, they minimize chemical use and are better aligned with sustainable practices. The stickers we use are also FSC-certified, acid-free and are 100% compostable and recyclable after use!

Limited editions

With fast fashion, the quantity of clothes produced and thrown away has boomed. The fashion industry is estimated to be responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions, more than international flights and maritime shipping combined. On average Europeans use nearly 26 kilos of textiles and discard about 11 kilos of them every year.

At Leave to Wonder we do not want to contribute to the use and throw away mentality. Therefore, we have chosen to pursue a limited-edition philosophy, producing only 300 items of each t-shirt design.
